Preserving Literary Heritage

The Martin Wickramasinghe Trust is dedicated to preserving and promoting the literary and cultural legacy of Martin Wickramasinghe, one of Sri Lanka's most influential literary figures.

Established in 1976, the Trust is a government-approved charitable organization committed to safeguarding his intellectual and creative output and ensuring its accessibility for future generations.

The writer's former home in Nawala now serves as the Trust's office and institutional centre.

The Trust manages several key initiatives that align with our mission of preserving and promoting Martin Wickramasinghe's legacy:

  • Publication Program: We continue to publish and republish Martin Wickramasinghe's works in Sinhala and in translation, making them accessible to new generations of readers.
  • Folk Museum Management: The Trust maintains the Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Museum Complex in Koggala, which includes his ancestral home and extensive collections of artifacts representing Sri Lankan rural life and culture.
  • Educational Outreach: We conduct workshops, seminars, and educational programs for students, researchers, and the general public on various aspects of Wickramasinghe's work and Sri Lankan cultural heritage.
  • Research Support: The Trust provides resources and support for scholars and researchers studying Wickramasinghe's literary contributions and cultural analyses. This includes maintaining an extensive archive encompassing a wide range of materials such as articles, original manuscripts, photographs, audio recordings, and video content related to Martin Wickramasinghe, offering invaluable primary source material for in-depth study.
